Announcing Lekko's Seed Round

Lekko launches out of stealth as the first commercial dynamic configuration tool for engineers

I'm excited to announce Lekko’s launch out of stealth today with $4.5 million in seed funding. We’re on a mission to help developers move beyond feature flags and change the future of how teams build and manage software through dynamic configuration. Big tech companies already have in-house systems that allow teams to move quickly without the downsides of risk and complexity that plague current feature flagging tools. Lekko is our way of bringing that power to every team, backed by our experience and shaped by our early customers.

I’d like to thank our lead investors, Todd Arfman and Aaron Schildkrout from Addition and Brandon Reeves at Lux, for believing in our vision. Steven Lee from SV Angel, Taylor Clauson from Abstraction.vc, and Claire Smilow from BoxGroup have helped us tremendously. Angel investors and mentors Peter Edge and Ahron Seeman of Buf, Thomas Chen Creator of Flipr, Julianna Lamb of Stytch, and Brent Goldman have been vital. We’ve assembled a superstar team founding team of engineers Sergey, David, and Jonathan, and Reily handling business, and our advisors Christina Noren and John Zimmerman have been transformational.

How we got here

Uber’s rapid scale to 10,000+ cities was only possible with dynamic configuration tooling, which let engineers ship quickly and safely hand over control to product and operations. I didn’t realize how much I missed this tooling until I left and worked at a small startup that used a conventional feature flagging tool. I found myself faced with a tradeoff of speed vs. complexity and risk.

I needed a tool that let me, the software engineer, build with tooling that was simple and safe when handing off control. I decided to found my own company and build it myself, so everyone else could feel the power of dynamic configuration tools. We assembled a team that has built these tools before—Sergey was the tech lead of Facebook’s Configerator. Thomas Chen, creator of Flipr, is an angel investor.

Dynamic configuration

This is just the beginning. We’re excited to share very soon how we’ve solved our early customers' problems and some exciting new features and capabilities. Our free-forever plan is available for up to 25 concurrent lekkos — our term for dynamic functions in your code that go beyond feature flags and are so much simpler to manage. You’ll stop thinking about individual flags and start crafting complete, validated, fully tested configurations. As I learned firsthand, you won’t want to go back once you've had it.
